Smash Burger Sauce is a creamy, tangy, and savory sauce that’s a quick & easy mix of ingredients you likely already have at home! Perfect over burgers or as a dip for crispy french fries.
If the Smashburger Sauce isn’t dripping down your arms, you’re doing it wrong.
Smash burgers are fast, easy, and turn out juicy + crispy all at the same time. The perfect burger if you ask me!
The best way to dress them up? With our homemade smash burger sauce, of course!
A double stacked burger so that you get plenty of crispy edges with lots of juicy burger + an embarrassing amount of smash burger sauce to drip all over. If your burger isn’t messy, is it worth eating?
This sweet, savory, creamy sauce seriously takes this over the top and makes this a restaurant quality burger that you’re going to feel so good about serving to friends and family!
The sauce is also great for dipping with french fries or onion strings!
We just shared our recipe for pimento cheese burgers the other day – as you can see, we’re really enjoying grilling out this summer!
♥ What We Love About This Recipe:
- Easy: Literally stir it together in a single bowl. Win.
- Customizable: Like it extra tangy? Want some spice? Need a little sweetness? You can easily doctor this up.
- Saucy: Adding a special sauce to a burger instantly makes it feel a little fancy. But also the saucy goodness just makes it tasty.
- Dippable: Serve this drizzled over your burger and use the leftovers for dipping those french fries!
Ingredient Notes:
Mayonnaise – Use real mayo and not Miracle Whip here. We like Kraft, but Duke’s is tasty too.
Ketchup – I’m a Heinz girl through and through, but use what you have.
Mustard – This won’t make the sauce taste mustard-y, but it does help balance the flavors.
White Vinegar – This will add a little bit of a tangy component to the sauce that brings it all together. You can use dill pickle juice instead if you prefer that flavor. And pickle relish would give it a Thousand Island vibe.
Seasoning – Chili powder for a little kick (it’s not spicy) and garlic powder or salt, depending on what you keep on hand.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Tips & Swaps You Might Need:
Pickles: Love thousand island? Add some minced dill pickles or pickle relish to the sauce!
Vinegar: We use white vinegar here, but swap it out for ACV or dill pickle juice if you prefer.
Spice: The chili powder doesn’t make this spicy, but you can stir in some cayenne for a kick!
Storage: We keep this in a mason jar and store in the fridge for around a week.
How to Make Smash Burger Sauce:
Add all of the ingredients to a mixing bowl or large mason jar.
Whisk until combined. Taste and add additional salt or vinegar to suit your tastes.
Helpful Tip!
Storage & Freezing:
You can keep this sauce stored in a mason jar or airtight container in your refrigerator for up to a week! I would not recommend freezing this sauce.
Serving Suggestions:
Obviously when serving smash burger sauce you would normally serve it on smash burgers. And you should!
This creamy sauce is also great on turkey burgers! You can even drizzle it over our loose meat sandwich!
Wraps are another good way to enjoy this sauce. Try it with deli turkey, lots of fresh veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and a bit of shredded cheddar.
Of course, french fries make a great vehicle for shoveling this sauce in your face, right alongside our oven fried chicken tenders.
There’s so many great ways to enjoy this easy homemade sauce!

This sauce was so yummy, I even swapped mayo for Greek yogurt and it was still amazing !

So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks, Lindsay!

I’m going to make this because I ran out of wahlbergers sauce. Looks like probably the same thing. And if mayo keeps way longer than a few days, I doubt this would go bad any faster.
Charlene says
This is a new favorite that we’ll make again and again!
Karly Campbell says
Yay! I’m so glad you like this one! ๐
