This skillet cookie is loaded with milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and caramel for an irresistible family treat that is made right in one skillet for easy cleanup! No mixer required!
I’m back with another blog hop featuring Hershey’s Kisses chocolates and Reese’s Peanut Butter cups! So many fun holiday treats to share! You can find links to all of the goodies below my recipe for this ooey, gooey, chocolate caramel skillet cookie!
Mom confession: I know that, as a parent, I’m supposed to be really good about letting my kids help in the kitchen. Honestly, I should probably be awesome about it considering that food is how I earn a living and that I homeschool, so it’s my job to teach these little people how to be functioning adults.
The truth, though? I hate it. Kids in the kitchen is just not my thing.
They’re in my way and they’re slow and they constantly ask to lick things.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I let them help. I just have to mentally prepare myself for it. I don’t like the surprise can I help with dinner attacks. Dinner time is hard enough without little people running under my feet and asking to squirt ketchup all over everything.
So, I psyche myself up for baking with the kids as often as possible, because I know they love it. This Skillet Cookie was the perfect kids in the kitchen project! It’s easy, there is stirring, which we all know is the best part of cooking if you’re a child, and it makes one gigantic cookie. Who doesn’t love gigantic cookies?
The best part? Everyone grabbing a spoon and digging in together! Who needs plates? The kids’ germs are already all up in the cookie anyway. You may as well just embrace it at this point.
I used three kinds of Hershey’s Kisses chocolates for this recipe. Original milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and caramel filled kisses are loaded up in this easy recipe. This recipe is adapted from Sophistimom. I love that she created a cookie with no mixer or extra bowls needed. I’ve changed up her recipe by adding extra brown sugar, more vanilla, and cornstarch for an extra soft and chewy cookie. Like I said, this is an easy recipe that requires no mixer. Everything gets mixed up right in the 8-inch Cast Iron Skillet
for easy clean up, too! Don’t forget to top your cookie with loads of ice cream, hot fudge, and caramel sauce to make things extra delightful.
Hershey's Kisses Skillet Cookie
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg beaten
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup Hershey’s Kisses any type
- Ice cream and hot fudge for serving, if desired
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In an 8-inch Cast Iron Skillet, heat the butter over low heat until melted.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the sugar with a wooden spoon. Let sit for 10 minutes to cool.
- Add the egg and vanilla to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Add the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt to the skillet and gently stir with a wooden spoon. Your skillet will be a bit full, so stir gently to avoid spilling.
- Once the ingredients are combined well, stir in the Hershey's Kisses.
- Bake for 12 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
- Top with ice cream and hot fudge, if desired.

I made this recipe and scaled to 6 servings in a 10-inch skillet. Baked an additional 2 minutes (total of 14 min) but after cooling the 5 min I realized it was totally undercooked in the middle. Tastes good but more like warmed up raw cookie dough. Donโt know how to test for doneness. It was too late to bake more after cooling.

Hi Wendy! We like it warm and gooey and it’s definitely not supposed to be fully set – you can see it in the last photo. But, you can keep baking longer if you like a more done cookie, especially if you’ve increased the ingredients. The edges and top should be golden brown and if you poke the center it should feel mostly set. ๐

Ironically, this is actually one of my favorite baking recipes to make WITH my children. ๐ Once the skillet cools a bit, I dump things in it while they stir. I can’t bake for fun or stress relief with my children, but we can throw this together after dinner, and it’s become quite a lovely family memory.
Karly says
This one isn’t too terrible with the kids! ๐ Love hearing that you guys are making family memories with it. ๐

I bought the little skillet with the cookie dough in a bag and fixed it for my husband. ย Now I need to find a recipes that just makes one cookie. ย Can you help me?

I LOVE this recipe. It was chewy and very gooey, it tasted like a blondie! I just think that it was a bit too sweet, maybe because the Hershey’s kisses are also very sweet, so I would reduce the sugar next time. But these were delicious, thanks for the recipe!ย

Glad you liked this one! ๐

Absolutely delicious. But I had to cook it for 30minutes not 12. Worth the wait though.

I’ve FINALLY joined the cast iron skillet family and just discovered the skillet cookie! Yahoo! Can I make this in a larger skillet and expect a thinner cookie, or should I alter the recipe? I have a 12″ skillet.
Karly says
@Jean Springer,
I think that would work, but you’ll definitely need to adjust the bake time. You could also double the recipe for the larger pan. ๐
Laura says
Can I bake these in 5 1/2 inch iron skillets? How long do you think I should do it? Just until browned around the edges?
Karly says
Hi @Laura!
Yep, these would be fine in smaller pans (assuming you’re splitting the recipe between two pans). I’m not sure how long it will take, just keep an eye on them! Better to undercook than overcook when it comes to cookies! ๐
laura says
Can you bake this in a pan ?
Karly says
@laura, Sure! As long as it’s oven safe and similar in size. ๐

This looks like heaven in a skillet! Yum! I need to try this!

Let me tell you, any dessert that looks this amazing and doesn’t require any extra mixing bowl is an instant soulmate to me. Incredible! (And I laughed about the kids in the kitchen thing…I’ve just had to throw up my hands and let them in – although there are definitely angels singing when I am in the kitchen by myself.)

Pass me a fork, please. YUM!

Oh seriously you and I are the same person. Can we move in together and just love off of chocolate and cookies? I think we could survive for a few days at least. And it would be quiet.
Jocelyn@ BruCrew Life says
Hahahaha! I just couldn’t help but laugh as I was reading this. I seriously feel like I could have written it. Kids helping in the kitchen gives me the shivers. Surprise attack helps are the worst…I agree that we need to be mentally ready for the craziness that happens when they help. Is it bad that I do most of my baking after my kids go to bed? Although I must say it is getting better as they get older. (LOL just trying to redeem myself) I might need this entire skillet cookie after a baking session! I LOVE how gooey it is…kid germs and all!

What a glorious cookie skillet! I think I need this for breakfast tomorrow!
And I’m totally with you on the kids in the kitchen situation. I want to be the cool aunt that lets her niece and nephews help make cookies but they make such a mess and it’s just a million times more work on your end!
