This Green Goddess Dip recipe is creamy, herby, and perfect for spring or summer. Serve with a variety of dippers, like raw veggies, chips, crusty bread, or crackers!
There’s a lot of dip recipes out there, and most of them aren’t all that healthy. No complaints from me, because I’m willing to go down in a pile of cheesy, creamy goodness (like our Rotel Dip or Chili Cheese Dip!)
But when you’re looking for something a little lighter, a little more nutritious, and maybe a little more green…you’ll want to check out our green goddess dip! This creamy, herby dip is great for serving alongside fresh, raw veggies for dipping, or dig in with a pile of tortilla chips, pita chips, or your favorite crackers. Add this to your Mother’s Day charcuterie board with some crackers!

What is Green Goddess Dip?
This creamy dip is often prepared with a base of mayo, sour cream, or yogurt. We’re using plain Greek yogurt to keep things on the lighter side.
The yogurt gets blended with with lots of fresh, green herbs like basil, cilantro, spinach, and chives.
We’re also blending in fresh, creamy, buttery avocado! There are a number of ways to prepare this healthy dip with various ingredients, and not all recipes include avocado. Some use other savory ingredients like anchovies.
Freshly squeezed lemon juice helps brighten the colors and enhance the flavors in the dip.
♥ What We Love About This Recipe:
- Fresh: We’re using lots of fresh herbs here to add bold, fresh flavor. The addition of creamy avocado and fresh squeezed lemon juice just takes this over the top.
- Nutritious: Unlike most dip recipes, this nutritious dip is loaded with fresh ingredients like avocado, spinach, and lemon juice.
- Easy: You’ll just dump everything into your food processor or blender and blend it up. Couldn’t be simpler!
- Dip or Dressing: Have leftover dip? Thin it out with a bit of buttermilk to turn it into a delicious green goddess salad dressing!
Ingredient Notes:
Greek Yogurt – The base of this dip starts with plain Greek yogurt. The yogurt could also be substituted for sour cream if you prefer, but we love the protein that Greek yogurt adds.
Avocado – You’ll need a couple of small, ripe avocados. See below for more information on how to choose perfectly ripe avocado!
Greens – We’re using fresh spinach, fresh basil, chives, and cilantro. If you don’t like cilantro you could use more spinach and basil, or try parsley.
Olive Oil & Lemon Juice – I’d recommend using a good quality olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice. Store bought lemon juice is okay too. It’ll brighten the colors and enhance the flavors in the green goddess dip!
Garlic – A couple cloves of garlic will get nicely minced with the other ingredients in the blender and add lots of flavor to the dip.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
Citrus Juicer
Freshly squeezed lime and lemon juice is useful in lots of recipes, and this tool makes it easy and mess free.
How to Choose a Ripe Avocado:
- Squeeze: The best indicator of ripeness is to just squeeze the fruit. If it yields slightly to the pressure and isn’t as hard as a rock then that’s a good sign!
- Color: You can also judge the ripeness of an avocado by it’s color. An unripe avocado will be bright green. A ripe avocado should be a darker green, just not brown and mushy!
- Stem: Pop the little bit of stem off the avocado. If it gives easily and the color inside is a nice green, your avocado should be ripe! If it’s brown, it’s overripe. If it’s yellow, it’s not ripe enough.
Helpful Tip!
Avocados can be tricky in terms of their ripeness. You don’t want them overly ripe and too brown, but we’d err on the side of more ripe than less ripe for this recipe! You can store your avocado in the fridge once it’s ripe enough and that will slow things down and make your avocado last longer. If they’re too hard, a neat trick is to store them next to some bananas! They’ll help ripen the avocado faster.
Step by Step Instructions:
Add all of the ingredients to a food processor fitted with the blade attachment or to a blender.
Process until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust with additional seasoning or lemon juice to reach the flavor you prefer.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve this alongside some fresh, raw veggies like carrots, sliced cucumber, radish, bell peppers, and tomatoes. They’ll all taste great in this creamy, herby dip!
Another excellent choice would be pretty much any kind of crackers or chips that you’d normally dip with. Try this with some homemade air fryer tortilla chips! Some crusty bread like crostini is another good choice.
This dip also works well as a topping! Serve it on your favorite tacos, or even with grilled or roasted meats.
Thin this dip out with buttermilk to turn it into a delicious green goddess salad dressing!
Storage Instructions:
You can keep this green goddess dip recipe stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3 days. Avocado doesn’t store all that well and will start to brown pretty quickly so this dip is best served right away. If it does turn brown, it’s still safe to eat, just not quite so pretty.
I would not recommend freezing this dip recipe.
