Fry Sauce is our favorite way to dress up a plate of crispy, hot french fries! Simple to make (just whisk together a few ingredients!) and it’ll keep in the fridge for a week!

Our fry sauce recipe takes french fries to the next level.
As If We Needed Even More Reasons To Eat French Fries
When I was a kid my parents would dip their French fries in this horrible pink concoction of mayonnaise and ketchup. It seriously grossed me out. I liked mayo, I liked ketchup, but in true kid form, I would absolutely never even consider combining the two!
Then I grew up and now it seems as if I just can’t live without fry sauce in my life.
This pink concoction is the stuff dreams are made of. It’s very similar to our smash burger sauce, but more simple in flavor with less seasonings. Both are fabulous on fries, just depends on your mood.
Our fry sauce is not quite as simple as my parent’s version of equal parts ketchup and mayo, but it’s 100 times better (sorry, mom and dad, but it is!) and I can not get enough of it.
My kids are pretty leary of it, but the husband and I gobble it down like it’s going out of style. Circle of life and all that.
Why Choose Our Recipe:
Well Seasoned: Sure, you can make a simple fry sauce with just ketchup and mayo, but the additional seasonings really make the flavors pop here!
Easy: Nothing is easier than a squirt of ketchup with your fries, but this is a close second and a great way to dress up dinner.
Ingredient Notes:
Mayo – You can use any brand of mayonnaise that you like, but you’ll want to start with real mayo and not Miracle Whip. We prefer Kraft mayo.
Ketchup – I’m a Heinz girl through and through! We like this one – made with no HFCS.
Vinegar – I use white distilled vinegar. It packs a big, bold punch and it’s cheap.
Seasoning – Stir some seasoned salt and pepper. I like Lawry’s seasoned salt.
Fries – What would be the point of making fry sauce without some fries? Try this sauce with these air fryer frozen French fries, or these air fryer waffle fries! Also delicious drizzled over a smash burger or as a dip for our onion strings.
How to Make Fry Sauce:
Mix: With only a few ingredients there obviously isn’t a whole lot of complexity to this recipe! Add the mayo, ketchup, and vinegar to a bowl and whisk together with the salt and peppers until it’s all well mixed.
Serve: After mixing together the fry sauce there is only one, obvious thing left to do! You’re going to need some fries. Get to dipping!

Now I want fries. AND fry sauce!!!
Yeah for Nebraska, my home state! We do kind of like our cinnamon rolls. And you know what we usually serve them with? Chili! Not like eating them together, but serving them together. It’s the perfect spicy/sweet meal combo. You’ll find them served together at restaurants and even in schools.
Hope you are getting all settled in and enjoying The Good Life! ๐

I don’t know where in Nebraska you’ve’ moved too, but welcome!!! I also live in Nebraska and have followed your site for awhile now! You always have great food ideas and your posts are hilarious to read!!! This fry sauce I’m going to have to try sometime. Oddly enough I’ve never heard of Freddy’s…..definitely don’t have one where I live!! Some things you must try now that you are in Nebraska are Runza and Valentinos!!! ๐
Karly says
@Karen,
We tried Runza yesterday and it was pretty good! I need to try the BLT Runza and see how that goes…sounds amazing! As for Valentino’s, I’ll look it up! Thank you! ๐

I wish I could get my head wrapped around fry sauce, but mayo and ketchup are pretty much two of my least favorite things on this earth! Sigh. I do know a lot of people who would love this though…might have to make an appearance in my life at some point!
Kerri says
Try adding some garlic! Mmmmmm!!!!

You’re moving so far awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I must try this thing you call Fry Sauce ๐
ShaNae says
I chuckled at this post. I live in Utah and it’s like a staple in our pantries here. My son dips his fries in it and puts them on his hamburgers. I will try this one, but one of my favorites has barbeque sauce in it which I love but the kid hates so I do what he will eat. Yes, I am mom to one of the pickiest children to ever live, and fry sauce is the only thing he will eat that is combined, other foods, if they, gasp, touch each other are no longer edible, or something gets mixed together, no longer edible. Seriously, can’t your mashed potatoes mingle with your gravy? Nope, only fry sauce can be combined. LOL

@ShaNae, I’m 58 and i still don’t want my food to touch. I also tend to eat one thing at a time. Even my sauces tend to go on the side. Sad but true. On the other hand, my husband is famous for his combos. It’s good that i am a rather savvy cook so I tend to put a meal together that is complimentary.
ShaNae says
@Susan, he does the same thing. Eats one thing at a time and all sauces or condiments are on the side. That’s ok though, like you said, you are savvy in how to prepare your meals, as I have become with him. Have a great afternoon.

What a blast from the past! I too grew up with this sauce only we called it Boston fish sauce. My mother was from Boston and we were a Catholic family thus fish sauce. My children thought the pink stuff looked gross the first time I served it
Mine is made with fresh lemon juuce but vinegar would be wonderful, too. Thanks for the memories.

Welcome to Nebraska, Karly! I grew up in the Cornhusker state. While I don’t recall any fry sauce when I was a kid, but a friend of mine always dipped her potato chips in a mayo-ketchup combo. Similar, right?
Cookbook Queen says
That settles it. I’m totally moving to Nebraska. And since you’re the only person I’ll know, you have to hang out with me all the time. And eat fries and cinnamon rolls.
Taylor @ Food Faith Fitness says
I have never had “fry sauce” before, I am a ketchup addict. BUT, I am more than willing to try somethin’ new…I mean, if you add mayo to anything, it makes it better.
