Pass Me A Bowl of Egg Roll Sauce + a Pile of Egg Rolls, Thanks.
My husband’s grandma used to make these crazy delicious pork egg rolls and I’ve since taken over the tradition. They’re so simple to make since they start with a pound of breakfast sausage and a bag of coleslaw mix, but oh my gosh, they are seriously hard to beat.
If you know me, then you know that I’m pretty much eating every dang thing with some sort of dip or sauce or drizzle of goodness, which means that this egg roll dipping sauce is an obvious must. (See also: barbecue fry sauce and smash burger sauce, which are two major favorites to make.)
This egg roll sauce is salty with just a hint of sweetness to balance things out, rich and savory, and just the perfect complement to all of your egg roll situations.
Give our sausage egg roll in a bowl a little drizzle of this sauce for a real treat!
♥ What We Love About This Recipe:
- Versatile: You don’t have to use this egg roll sauce just for egg rolls! It’s so simple and you can use it for all kinds of Asian inspired dishes. It’s perfect as a stir-fry sauce, or drizzle it over some fried rice.
- Flavor: There’s a lot going on in this sauce! The savory soy sauce, tangy rice vinegar, sweet brown sugar, toasted sesame seed oil, and ginger all make for a wonderful combination of flavors!
Ingredient Notes:
Soy Sauce – The base of this Asian inspired sauce for dipping egg rolls begins with soy sauce. You can use any brand that you like for this if you have a preference.
Rice Vinegar – This adds a little bit of tangy flavor. We also use this in our Asian cucumber salad.
Brown Sugar – Along with the savory and tangy flavors we’re adding some sweet! A bit of brown sugar will do the trick, but you could swap in honey if you prefer.
Corn Starch – This is for thickening up the sauce.
Sesame Oil – Commonly used in Asian cuisine, sesame oil is a popular ingredient that’s added to sauces or used for topping foods after cooking. It adds wonderful toasted sesame seed flavor!
Seasoning – Another popular Asian ingredient is ground ginger and that’s what I’m adding for seasoning along with some garlic powder and onion powder.

Step by Step Instructions:
Add all of the ingredients to a small saucepan and whisk together to combine. Turn heat to medium low and bring the sauce to a boil, stirring frequently.
Turn heat to medium low and bring the sauce to a boil. Once boiling, remove from the heat and let it cool down! It’s ready to devour!
For a thicker sauce, let the sauce boil for about 20 seconds. It’ll thicken up quickly! We do like it pretty thin and drippy ourselves.
Helpful Tip!
Storage & Freezing:
You can keep this sauce stored in a jar or airtight container in your refrigerator for about a week!
We don’t recommend freezing this sauce as it contains cornstarch. Unfortunately, freezing cornstarch doesn’t generally work that well and the sauce will have a different texture upon thawing.
Serving Suggestions:
Of course you’re going to want to serve this sauce with your favorite egg rolls, like our pork egg rolls recipe or you can make frozen egg rolls in the air fryer! But egg rolls aren’t the only thing you can serve this with. Try this sauce with some of these other foods:
- Spring Rolls
- Potstickers
- Lo Mein
- Fried Rice
- Stir Fry
Recipe FAQs:
You could swap out the soy sauce in this recipe for liquid aminos or coconut aminos! They taste similar to soy sauce, but are lower in sodium and are both gluten free.
You can easily add some spice to your egg roll dipping sauce by adding in a dash of red pepper flakes. The more you add, the spicier the sauce will be. You could also use spicy sesame oil instead of regular sesame oil for even more spice.
You can easily control how thick this sauce is by how long you let it boil. For a thinner, glossier sauce remove from the heat as soon as it begins boiling. For a thick sauce, let the sauce boil for 10-20 seconds.

My family loves eggs rolls too. We especially like to make them with our homemade sausages, venison, elk, moose and pork. Most of our sausage is smoked so we get that extra flavor.
