This crock pot chicken and stuffing is the easiest comfort food you’ll ever make! Toss everything into the slow cooker and let the magic happen!
Alright, so I don’t want to alarm anyone, but I often eat a bowl of Stove Top Stuffing for breakfast.
Hold up. Don’t leave me. I swear I’m not insane.
It’s just, as a kid, I never liked or ate oatmeal, but some days I needed something warm and hearty and…Stove Top Stuffing was there for me, man. And I never outgrew the habit.
Annnnnnyway. Let’s forget I said anything and instead talk about this Crock Pot Chicken and Stuffing, which I swear is really good and totally normal and even though I eat weird things for breakfast sometimes, you can totally trust me.
You don’t trust me anymore, do you?
I’m sure you have some weird food secret that you’ve never shared with the Internet before. I dare you to share it in the comments.
It’ll be like a little support group down there, all of us sharing our weirdness and coming together to stop the hate.
So, back to this slow cooker chicken and stuffing. It’s pure comfort food and it’s tossed together in a flash. Tastes like Thanksgiving dinner without all the work!

Stuffing Mix – Keep things simple and just grab a bag of the dried, seasoned cubed stuffing mix from the store! It’s quick and easy and works perfectly.
Chicken – You’ll add some seasoned chicken breasts to the crockpot to slow cook with the stuffing. When it’s all ready, you’ll shred the chicken and stuffing together!
Veggies – I like to add a bit of diced onion and celery to this chicken and stuffing recipe to add some extra flavors and variety!
Soup – You can use canned soup, or try my cream of chicken soup substitute or cream of mushroom soup subtitute) along with some chicken broth!
Seasoning – Ground sage will add lots of wonderful savory flavor to this chicken and stuffing recipe! You’ll also season the chicken breast with some salt and pepper.
What Readers are Saying!
“This has good to be one of the best recipes ever created for a crockpot. First it’s extremely simple to make. Next, it’s solves that ‘I want Thanksgiving dinner, but don’t want to make it conundrum’. Taste….spot on. FINALLY, and maybe the most important bonus of this recipe is the LEFTOVERS…” – Chuck
Crockpot Recommendation!
In the market for a new slow cooker? We love this 7 quart Crockpot. It’s simple to use, cooks evenly, and is very budget friendly. Plus, it has a 4 1/2 star rating with over 5,000 reviews on Amazon!
How To Make Crockpot Chicken & Stuffing:
Mix: Add a bag of dry stuffing cubes (not Stove Top) to the slow cooker, along with some chopped celery and onion.
Soup: Stir in the cream of chicken soup, a bit of broth, and then season it with a little sage.
Chicken: Season your chicken with salt and pepper (feel free to add additional spices here!) and pop it right on top of the stuffing mix. The juices from the chicken will drip down and add moisture and flavor to the stuffing.
Slow Cook: After preparing the chicken and stuffing ingredients you can cover your crockpot and slow cook on low heat for 4 hours and 30 minutes or until the chicken has cooked through and shreds easily.
Shred the chicken together with the stuffing and serve! This crock pot stuffing and chicken recipe is like Thanksgiving goodness you can eat any time of the year!
Helpful TipS!
I would recommend putting the chicken on top of the other ingredients, not on the bottom!
A lot of readers have tried putting the chicken on the bottom (I have too, it seems like the obvious way to do it), but I don’t love it that way!
The chicken will release a lot of juice and if it’s at the bottom, the stuffing on the bottom is soggy and the stuffing on top is dry.
If you put the chicken on top of the stuffing, the juices will soak down into it and it’ll all come out with the right consistency!
Feel free to increase or decrease the liquids in this recipe to suit your tastes, but I’ve tested it and I think the amount I used is the best!
I recommend that you make this a whole big feast and serve it with my roasted sweet potatoes and pumpkin crunch cake to really bring home that Thanksgiving at random times of the year feel.
Or just be normal and eat it with a salad. Whatevs.
Hope you guys enjoy!
FAQs:
You can keep this recipe stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for about 3 to 4 days. It may get a little soggier over time.
I’ve never tried this recipe using frozen chicken. It could probably work but it may add more liquid than you’d want. I’d recommend using fresh chicken breast!

My mom used to make cream cheese and jelly sandwiches for me when I was young. I had forgotten about that; thanks for the reminder. Now I like cream cheese and pepperoni on rye bread.
Nicole says
Ooh that sounds like something I have to try!
Karly says
Cream cheese and jelly sounds so good!

This looks gorgeous! But, over here in the UK we don’t have stovetop, our stuffing looks completely different to what you use. Do you know what ingredients are in stovetop stuffing please? i’m hoping i can duplicate it here…
Karly says
The stuffing mix sold here is just dried bread cubes with poultry seasoning. Similar to croutons, but smaller, crunchier, and pretty bland until you cook them.

This recipe sounds amazing. Add a bag of frozen veggies serve with cranberry sauce and I’ve got one of my favorites comfort foods. So I have a weird food confession… I love reheated bean burritos from Taco Bell with big glass of cold grape KoolAid. I also love peanut butter and dill pickles on whole grain toast, scrambled eggs with A1 or Hienz 57 sauce and my favorite is cottage cheese and bacon bits with a drizzle of Italian dressing on top.
Sarah Mil says
I also put Italian dressing on my Stove Top stuffing.
Karly says
I have done that before too!!
Karly says
That cottage cheese concoction sounds amazing!
Nicole says
I can hardly eat my cottage cheese without horseradish anymore.. LOL
P.S. Try the concoction spread on a slice of pumpernickel bread and sprinkle with black pepper. YUM!

Weird food introduced by my husband. ย I was raised on peanut butter and banana sandwiches but his family ate peanut butter and tomato sandwiches. Thought he was nuts until ย I tried it. ย Now my favorite especially when fresh tomatoes from the garden are in season.

What?! I’ve never heard of such a thing and I’m a little nervous to try…but I’m going to!
Muna Kenny says
Oh my Lord, this looks perfect! I didn’t have stuffings since ages and would love to give your recipe a try soon ๐

Weird food? Sure. I like organ meats. Chicken gizzards and livers, deep fried. Beef liver, gravy, and buttered onions on toast. Beef kidneys well trimmed. Beef hearts sliced with mashed potatoes. Blood sausages? Yep, French style with sauteed apple slices and tarragon. Headcheese sandwiches with extra sharp cheddar. Got some cleaned stomach? Menudo on the menu. Homemade sausages with ground “extras” and spices in cleaned intestines? Of course. Brains? pass the squirrel and calf brains, with a side of fish roe. The only thing I have never figured out how to cook is lung tissue. Ideas?

Haha! What is it about KRAFT cheese slices… I mean, it’s like we KNOW it’s not real cheese. But love it anyway! This looks awesome!
Karly says
I’ll never stop loving those cheese slices. ๐

I’m with you, this is my kind of comfort food. I think the stuffing is my favorite part of a Thanksgiving meal. It’s just so flavorful with all the veggies, herbs and meat juice cooked in it – yum!
Julia @ Plated Cravings says
This looks so delicious and comforting!! One weird thing I love to eat when I’m lazy and there aren’t any leftovers in the fridge is rice with a raw egg. Ok, the egg isn’t really raw, you mix the raw egg with the hot rice and a little bit of soy sauce and it gets kind of cooked. It’s so good!!
Karly says
Ooh, that sounds interesting! Kind of like an Asian Carbonara.

#1 Tuna fish sandwich dipped in chocolate milk. Used to do that as a kid a couple of times a week. Think i need to break out the tradition. My tuna was very basic though, tuna and mayo thats it.
#2 mashed potato boat then ketchup in the middle covered by more mashed potatoes. It was the only way I’d eat them till I was 7. My sister tells me now that I’m the reason she hates mashed potatoes. ? She should have looked away!
Karly says
Mashed potatoes and ketchup were a favorite of mine growing up!

Spaghetti w/meat sandwich. Make sandwich with American cheese, spaghetti, wrap in paper towel, microwave 45-60 seconds, unwrap, add mayonaise, NOT miracle whip. Maybe with some red pepper ? flakes. BEST day after sandwich EVER! Or try Pace Picante Sauce and Mayo sandwich….mmmmmmm!
Or bowl of beans with cornbread crumbled in and a dollop of Mayo mixed in….perfect cold weather meal ever….or…my all time favorite, make a roast, (potato’s,carrots, onions, roast, can of cm mushroom.) makes the BEST gravy. Next day, make scrambled eggs and pour on gravy and warm near the end of the scramble. Serve on toast, AMAZING! We make a toast just for the gravy for our eggs! We live in Oklahoma, proudly!
TonyaKaye says
We make a roast just for the gravy, I meant to say!

I, too, am a Stovetop freak. I’ll have it at/for any reason, meal, snack or occasion! I haven’t tried cheese on top but I’m willing to try! My grandma introduced me to peanut butter, cheese and graham cracker sandwiches. And salted raw turnips. My mom is the raw potato muncher. I think everyone has something that others think odd. Admit it or not …

One of my favorite days is the day after Thanksgiving. My mom did something similar with leftover turkey and dressing. She also added some cooked rice and used leftover turkey gravy instead of the soup. Wow that brings back memories.
Karly says
That sounds amazing!

That’s my family’s favorite thing about Thanksgiving- when I make Thanksgiving casserole a day or two later!? Stuffing, green bean casserole, corn, turkey, and gravy, layer it in the pan and spread the mashed potatoes on top. Yum! I think this will thriyth for a close replacement. My weird foods? I second the pickle sandwich (with Miracle Whip), sautรฉed mushrooms and onions, and using cottage cheese for chip dip.
