So, my son? He had his first date a couple of weeks ago.
I will do my very best not to embarrass him here, because his cute little girlfriend might read this blog. All I will say is this: I cried harder after dropping him off at his date than I did on his first day of kindergarten.
I’m talking a full on ugly cry, you guys. It was ridiculous.
So, after the tears stopped, I obviously needed chocolate.
This ridiculous concoction worked miraculously. It’s one of the easiest recipes you’ll ever make and it’s absolutely loaded with chocolate. And just look at how fudgy it is! I die.
I know it’s the holiday season and we’re all in cookie mode, but take a 2 minute break to mix this up and pop it in the oven as a treat for your family. It’s perfect for busy days, because you just dump and bake.
If you can’t handle the idea of cake without frosting, maybe try this topped with my whipped icing!

Hi Karly, I found your website after Kayle shared the pic of this dish. It looks good but you never finished the story. I assume the chocolate cheered you up but how’s your son ith his girlfriend?
Karly says
Oh, yes, the chocolate saved the day. 🙂
As for the son and his girlfriend…they’re still all lovey dovey while I sit and look through baby pictures mumbling about how fast the time flies. Really, though, he had a nice time on his first date. No second date yet, but I’m sure it’s coming.

My little girl is only 1 1/2, so the whole dating thing is pretty far off, but probably will come much faster than I want it to! I bet that’s a strange, new feeling!
Kayle (The Cooking Actress) says
Awww that’s so sweet!!! And this pudding cake looks like pure chocolatey delicious comfort.

Woah. So not ready. Should be happening soon though as my son is 16 now! My daughter turns 14 next month, I have a feeling it will be her going on a first date before her brother. SIGH. At least I have this cake recipe that will help me through it. I totally know how to ugly cry, I’m talented at that too!

How can he be old enough to date? Wow, that went fast. He was *just* the age Julia is now! Yikes!
The recipe looks great, though. I don’t think it gets better than chocolate. Yum!

Four ingredients… then BLISS! Oh chocolate how I love you!

this looks amazingly easy and tasty! i was wondering if the recipe would be possible to make in individual smaller pan sizes to then wrap as gifts? like a quick bread pan?
Karly says
I think that would work fine, though you’ll need to adjust the baking time. Update us if you try it and I’ll add the instructions to the recipe! 🙂

I’m assuming it’s a good thing to make the hubby pass out? 😉
Lea says
A small package of pudding mix or pudding like a snack pack?
Karly says
Whoops! Pudding mix. You just dump the powder in with the cake mix.
Off to fix that in recipe. 🙂
JULIE MARTIN says
@Lea, Sorry to ask this but the pudding is it the cooked pudding or the uncooked version and what size?
Becky @LovetobeintheKitchen says
My boys are 1 and 3 so I can’t imagine what it will be like watching them go on their first date!
What an amazing recipe. It looks incredible!
Karly says
The date thing was equal parts horrifying and amazing. 🙂

I see the same question repeatedly on here so perhaps it would be helpful if you gave a couple more details in your recipe:
1 box dry chocolate cake mix
1 small package instant chocolate pudding mix
