As you can probably imagine, my kids get a lot of fun treats around our house.
Between our homemade brownies and perfect chocolate chip cookies, they end up as quite the lucky kids when it comes to dessert!
But, no matter what fancy treat I whip up, this simple cookie dough dip is what they ask for more than anything else.
It’s just about the easiest thing you could make, has all of those brown sugar and vanilla vibes we love in a cookie, and it’s perfect for serving with a pile of graham cracker sticks, Nilla wafers, or pretzel thins!
Other sweet dip favorites include our Oreo Cream Cheese Ball, Peanut Butter Cheeseball, and Caramel Apple Cheesecake Dip.

“Cookie Dough” – This cookie dough dip recipe doesn’t have actual cookie dough in it, but that’s okay! Skip the flour and egg and use some softened cream cheese. It’ll get mixed up with brown sugar, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract to replicate that cookie dough flavor and it’s perfectly soft for dipping!
Chocolate – We’re mixing in mini chocolate chips and sprinkling extra over the top.
Optional – We love to add some finely chopped pecans or other nuts to this dip, but it is optional! And of course you are free to add in all sorts of other goodies that might sound good like white chocolate chips, toffee bits, etc.

How to Make Cookie Dough Dip:
Mix: Beat together softened cream cheese, butter, and vanilla until it is light and fluffy and then gradually add in both of the sugars until it’s all combined.
My Favorite Hand Mixer!
It’s so easy to whip up dessert with this cute hand mixer. It doesn’t take up much space and is a must for any kitchen!
Chocolate: Dump in the chocolate chips and give them a quick stir.
Serve: After you finishing mixing the cookie dough dip together you can stick it in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes before serving and enjoying with your favorite dipping treats! See below for some suggestions.
Helpful Tip!
If the texture of the dip isn’t soft enough for you just let it come to room temperature before serving and it should soften up some. Likewise, if it’s too soft just pop it in the fridge to thicken up.
What to serve with cookie dough dip?
There are lots of great things you can use to dip with! We like dipping cookies into this cookie dough dip because… why not? Here are some other great suggestions:
- Graham Crackers/Sticks
- Pretzels
- Nilla Wafers
- Oreo Cookies
- Apple Slices
- Strawberries
FAQs:
This chocolate chip cookie dough is mostly just cream cheese, sugar, and chocolate so you know it’ll keep well in the refrigerator! It should last at least 4 to 5 days.
We haven’t tested freezing this dip, but would be a bit worried about the texture once it’s thawed. Cream cheese can get a bit grainy and crumbly after freezing.

I wonder if you could make this keto by using Swerve brand sugars? Might not taste as good but worth a try?
Karly says
Yep, absolutely! Cream cheese does a really good job of masking any aftertaste found in alternative sweeteners, so this is a good one to experiment with. ๐

I made this tonight along with 5 (yes FIVE) other dips for my sister’s birthday party… this was…OK. Until I added 3/4 c. of flour and 1 t. of salt. NOW it tastes like cookie dough. I don’t care about the raw flour. It’s good!

I once made chocolate cookie dough dip, but it was a little different than yours — the main ingredient was garbanzo beans. It was… disgusting.
Needless to say, yours looks better.
P.S. Here’s how mine came out! http://classygallie.com/2012/02/23/im-bringing-evil-to-tomorrows-potluck/

My question is – how do you even POST about this stuff when you are not eating sugar? I couldn’t do it. You have amazing will-power!!! LOVE!
Karly says
@Deborah,
Oh no. I have HORRIBLE willpower. I made and photographed this a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t baked ANYTHING since I cut sugar on 4/9/12 . I have 2 recipes left to post and then we’ll be in trouble. There are a few low carb dinner recipes I’ll probably share (recipes that even non-low carb people will like) and then I’ll take a day off to cheat and bake bake bake. Or quit this stupid low carb thing altogether. Haha!
Honestly, I only promised myself I’d do this for 2 full weeks to see how much weight I could lose. So far, I’m not losing much at all, so I don’t know how long I’ll stick with it after the 2 weeks are up. :/
But, thanks for the nice comment. ๐

Ive wanted to try this dip (similar recipes that I’ve seen all over) but I’ve read some reports that it tastes like cream cheese, not really cookie dough. I have nothing against cream cheese! at all! but I am hoping for a true cookie dough experience. Thoughts?
