The flavors of fall are popping in this caramel apple dump cake!
Caramel Apple Love in Cake Form!
I go nuts for a good caramel apple, but even those packaged ones from the grocery store with the tiny little peanuts and the sometimes mushy apples will get me excited.
This caramel apple sangria is a favorite fall drink of ours and this caramel apple dump cake is a favorite fall dessert!
I love that this one starts with a cake mix and a can of apple pie filling. I mean, sure. Sometimes going all Betty Crocker in the kitchen and making everything from scratch is the vibe. And sometimes it’s just not. Sometimes you just need easy and quick!
Much like our pumpkin crunch cake, this is perfect for fall and a cake that we make on repeat.
We like to serve this warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Just the same way we serve up our chocolate strawberry dump cake and lemon blueberry dump cake!
What is a Dump Cake?
The name for this comes from how the cake is prepared, which is basically just dumping the ingredients into a baking dish and baking!
They come in all sorts of varieties, especially the fruity kind like this caramel apple dump cake. But you could just as easily swap those fruits for a different filling like blueberry, cherry, strawberry, or raspberry!
It’s a bit like a mix between a cake and a cobbler or crumble. Dessert is so quick and easy with this dump cake recipe!
Ingredient Notes:
Apple Pie Filling – I love canned pie filling! You can use it in so many more recipes than just pie. You could make your own homemade apple pie filling for this if you’d like to spend a little more time.
Caramel Sauce – Grab your favorite brand of caramel sauce or give this a try with our crockpot dulce de leche.
Spice Cake Mix – We like to go for a spice cake mix since it has those warm spices in it. You could also use a yellow or even white cake mix for this recipe.
Butter – You’ll place pats of butter over the dry cake mix and then the magic happens in the oven.
What We Love About This CARAMEL APPLE DUMP CAKE Recipe:
- Easy: Definitely the best part to any dump cake recipe is just how simple it is to prepare. Dump it in the baking dish and bake! It’s hard to mess this one up.
- Versatile: You don’t have to stick to apple! You can swap out the apple pie filling for pretty much any other canned fruit pie filling or even homemade pie fillings. Use any fruit mix you like!
- Hot or Cold: This is delicious warm from the oven or cold from the fridge. You really can’t go wrong.
How to Make Caramel Apple Dump Cake:
Pour the canned pie filling into a greased 9×13 baking dish and smooth out the top.
Drizzle the caramel sauce over the pie filling. Use as much or as little as you like.
Sprinkle the dry cake mix over the top of the caramel and pie filling in an even layer.
Arrange thin slices of butter over the cake mix and pop this in the oven for an hour.
Storage:
Once the cake has cooled, cover the dish with plastic wrap and store in the fridge for about 5 days.
To reheat, pop a scoop of this on a microwave safe plate and microwave for about 30-45 seconds or until warm.
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.

I’ve made this 3 times for different events and everyone wants the recipe! I actually used Lucky Leaf Carmel Apple filling and didn’t add any more carmel. Served it with Dolce Leche ice cream. Fabulous!

Iโm about to make this recipe and it says 12 pats of butter BUT the photo you posted shows about 3 times more than that. So, what amount did you actually use ?
