This Bacon Butter is perfectly savory and great for spreading on bread, biscuits, or rolls, topping baked potatoes, grilled meats, veggies and so much more!
Back in the day, when I first started this blog (almost 15 years ago now), I did a little series titled “Bacon Week” where I shared recipes that were heavy on the bacon for an entire week.
It makes me laugh now, because I don’t need a special week to celebrate the goodness of bacon. I’ll crumble it up and add it to just about anything – like this heavenly Bacon Butter!
Imagine one of our quick dinner rolls or my dad’s famous homemade biscuits and then picture spreading this soft, savory, creamy bacon butter over the top and digging in.
Or maybe melting a scoop of this over an air fryer ribeye?
Absolutely impossible to resist in every scenario.
What is Bacon Butter?
Ever heard of compound butter? It’s just butter that has been combined with other flavors, most often fresh herbs and garlic, but also often with something sweet like honey – as seen in our cinnamon honey butter!
Our Bacon Butter is a compound butter made with softened butter, fried and crumbled bacon, and the teensiest weensiest little bit of Dijon mustard. This stuff will blow your mind.
It’s perfect on a biscuit or a warm English muffin, a baked potato, or even on a grilled steak! And just imagine what this could do to popcorn.
♥ What We Love About This Recipe:
- Savory: It’s hard to think of a more savory combination than bacon and butter! It’s pure creamy goodness and perfect for smearing on some bread or muffins. Up your breakfast game with this savory spread!
- Easy: Aside from the need to fry up some bacon there really isn’t much to this recipe. It’s quick and easy to prepare and even better to enjoy!
- Unique: This is an unexpected way to add big flavor to a meal and most people will be surprised and impressed by this combo.
Ingredient Notes:
Bacon – This bacon butter starts with cooked bacon! You can fry it up on the stove, bake it in the oven, or make some air fryer bacon. It just needs to be nice and crispy so it can be easily crumbled!
Butter – You’ll want to start with room temperature butter for easy mixing. I’m using salted butter here too but you could use unsalted if you prefer it and then season to taste.
Dijon Mustard – The mustard adds depth and flavor while balancing out the richness of the butter. You can omit the mustard if you wish, especially if you might want to melt this over a stack of our buttermilk pancakes or our waffle recipe.
Cracked Pepper – A bit of pepper will work with the mustard to balance out the rich savory flavors in the bacon and butter. This can also be omitted if you’ll be using this bacon butter on a sweet treat.

And what about some bacon butter popcorn! Heat the bacon butter up in the microwave to melt and pour it over a big bowl of popcorn.
Use this bacon butter to top grilled steak, and don’t forget the baked potatoes either! We always load ours up with lots of bacon and butter anyways so this mixture is basically perfect for potatoes.

Freezing & Storage Instructions:
You can keep this bacon butter stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 5 to 7 days. Butter and bacon both store well so it should last you long enough to use it up!
It can also be frozen in a freezer safe container for up to a few months.
Recipe FAQs:
Bacon butter is a compound butter that’s made with bacon and butter, plus a bit of dijon mustard and fresh cracked pepper.
We save our bacon grease to use in other recipes. Pour it through a sieve or a coffee filter into a mason jar or other container. That stuff is pure flavor and you can use it in so many other recipes. If you’re not going to save it just make sure to not pour it down the drain!

If it is still possible to improve this, I will mix the fat of the bcon with the butter and add a pinch of black cracked pepper.
This is going to appear soon in my husband’s breakfast dish.
Okay, I will also have some…
