One of my favorite parts about my “new” house (we’ve lived here about 7 months now…how long can I call it new?) is the dining room. It’s big. Really, really big. As big as the living room, in fact. I’d take a picture of it for you if that didn’t mean, you know, cleaning it up first. Because, no. Just no. You can’t make me.
Moving into this house with the big dining room meant that my little 4-seater table from our old house just wasn’t going to cut it, so my fabulous mother-in-law passed down her gorgeous oak table and china hutch that my husband and his brothers bought her one Mother’s Day when they were in middle school. (I would just like to state, for the record, that my husband and his brothers obviously gave the best ever Mother’s Day gifts. I get handmade cards. My mother-in-law got an oak dining set. Whatev.) Anyway, my mother-in-law passed the table on to me and I have a sort of love/hate relationship with.
Love that it seats 10. Hate that it’s a bit country when I wanted to go more modern.
Love that it’s solidly built and the chairs, table, and hutch match each other which makes me feel like an adult. Hate that caring for wood furniture is HARD, man.
Love that it has a bit of history. Hate that when you put hot dishes on the table there are big, white stainy looking marks for days afterward.
Enter my new Bark Cloth Hot Pads from Comfort Joy Designs.
These Bark Cloth hot pads are made from antique bark cloth, which is a thick, soft, textured fabric. The hot pads are perfectly thick…not so thick that you can’t grip the handle or edge of a pan, but certainly thick enough that you don’t have to worry about burning yourself or damaging your table when using them.
They’re large, too. Plenty big enough to grab a large pan from the oven and perfect for using it as a trivet.
No more white stainy things on my pretty table!
Lucky for you, Comfort Joy Designs has graciously offered to give away one set of her Bark Cloth Hot Pads to a lucky reader.
To enter just leave a comment on this post telling me a bit about your dining room. I have dining rooms on the brain. I want to remodel mine (already, says my husband, with an eye roll), so hearing about your rooms will make me smile. Is it big, small, ugly, gorgeous, you love it, hate it, want to be buried whatever, just tell me!
Giveaway is open through noon CST on Friday, July 15, 2011. Winner will be selected via random number.
(I received my set of Bark Cloth Hot Pads for free in exchange for writing about them here. All opinions are, of course, my own.)
