It’s a beautiful thing. And it just so happens that I love you guys.
I know…awwwwwkward. I hate when someone random tells me they love me. You’re practically required by law to say it back, whether you mean it or not. I usually just say “me too!” So lame. Gives me flash backs to the first time I told my 8th grade boyfriend I loved him.
Okay, now that we’ve gotten my feelings out of the way, let’s talk Valentine’s Day!
I love making this day fun for the whole family by starting with a cute breakfast, like these Red Velvet Donuts!
The bright red donuts topped off with cream cheese frosting just scream V-Day to me! So fun, so sweet, and super easy since we start with a box of cake mix.
Let’s do this!

Donut Ingredients – You’ll need red velvet cake mix, buttermilk, oil, and an egg to prepare the red velvet donut batter. It’s a pretty simple mix!
Frosting Ingredients – For the rich and sweet cream cheese frosting you’ll mix together softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla!
What Readers are Saying!
“Made these last night and glazed them. They were incredible! Super moist and perfect consistency! Thanks for a great recipe!” – Stephanie
How to Make Red Velvet Donuts:
Donut Batter: To get started you’ll add all of the batter ingredients (cake mix, buttermilk, oil, egg) to a bowl and whisk together until it’s all well combined into a smooth red velvet donut batter.
Bake: Now to get baking! Spoon the donut batter into a greased donut pan. When filled pop it in the oven and bake for 10 minutes or until the donuts spring back when touched. Let cool for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack.
Frosting: To prepare the frosting you’ll add the softened cream cheese to a bowl and beat together with the powdered sugar, vanilla, and heavy cream!
Finally, spread a generous amount of the frosting on each red velvet donut! The contrasting red and white colors will make these cake mix donuts look even more appealing. And who can turn down all that cream cheese frosting?
Donut Pan
We use our Donut Pan to make donuts at least a few times a month! The kids love them, they’re easy to make, and then pan is super economical!
FAQs:
We like to keep these donuts in a sealed bag or container in the fridge. They’ll last for 3-4 days.
You can! Freeze them in a single layer in a freezer safe container for about 2 to 3 months. You can thaw them in the fridge overnight!

Wooow. The donuts look really delicious and what immediately came to my mind looking at the pictures is the gift I’m gonna give to my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day. I’ve made a private booking for one of the courses organized by Zacโs cooking school here in Vancouver – cooking classes for couples and your recipe will most certainly be among the first ones we’ll try together. So it fits in perfectly with my romantic plans. ๐

Great minds think alike! I had plans to make red velvet cake mix donuts for my blog this week too! I was waffling between dipping them in white chocolate or doing some kind of cream cheese frosting, but am leaning more towards the cream cheese frosting too.
